When we studied customer’s needs and wants, noise reduction was the one thing that stood out. In short, everyone had the opinion that all wheelchair lifts makes too much noise, says Phillip Bell, Director of Product Portfolio - Lifts
Acoustics isn’t the primary expertise of the BraunAbility engineers, so the company brought in help from Professor Mark French, Acoustics expert at Purdue University in Indiana, USA. Together the team were able to identify and silence all sources of noise in a wheelchair lift. The result is the new BraunAbility Q-Series wheelchair lift.
Noise measurements performed with various lifts on a so called rumble strip, showed that the noise from the Q-Series were indistinguishable from the noise in the empty van. Various competitor lifts were also measured and showed an increase of loudness in noise up to 19 dBA. That is almost four times as loud as the empty van.
