Powerful Ownership

Together with BraunAbility and Bruno Independent Living Aids and Unwin, Autoadapt is the leading global provider of safe vehicle adaptation solutions for people with reduced or limited mobility.

Founder and Vice President, Peter Wahlsten and CEO Håkan Sandberg have strengthened Autoadapt’s board and product portfolio by successfully integrating two additional owners and two subsidiaries.

Bruno Independent Living Aids became a part-owner of Autoadapt in 2003. Bruno is a leading global manufacturer of accessibility products. Since its founding in 1984 by Michael R. Bruno, the company has created the market for vehicle lifts – products that lift and stow wheelchairs and scooters into any kind of automotive vehicle. In the home accessibility industry, Bruno offers an array of stairlifts and vertical platform lifts. Bruno is based in Wisconsin, U.S.A.

In 2011 BraunAbility became part-owner and partner of Autoadapt. As a result of this Autoadapt is now BraunAbility’s exclusive sales channel in Europe including Russia and Turkey as well as the Middle East and South Africa. The BraunAbility was founded in 1972 by Ralph Braun and is based in Indiana U.S.A. Today the company is the industry’s largest manufacturer of wheelchair lifts and lowered floor vehicles.

Autoadapt bought a 50% share in Unwin in 2013 and completed the acquisition a year later. Unwin Safety Systems was set up 50 years ago by Norman Unwin, who created the world’s first device to secure wheelchairs in vehicles. Over the years, the company continued to grow and today all manufacturing, design and testing facilities are located in a modern factory in Somerset. In 2017 Unwin acquired the danish company Martech, known for their vehicle flooring products, among others Space Floor. The addition continued to strengthend the group's position as a leading supplier of vehicle adaptation solutions.

With a combined production area that measures up to over 100 000 m2 and an annual turnover of 2.5 billion SEK; BraunAbility, Bruno, Unwin, Autoadapt and their subsidiaries form the largest group of companies in the vehicle adaptation industry. In essence we have the foundation on which to continue to lead the industry into higher levels of safety and innovation.
